Even weirder PowerMac G5 power problem - The macosxhints Forums

Since there is already a "eldritch PowerMac G5 (power) difficulty" pull, i onymous this figure the "Even weirder PowerMac G5 power head".

To get it working over again takes a lot of persistence and causes appreciable aggravation, only essentially it's something comparable this: actuation all foreign USB and FireWire connections, actuation it even from the power mains for some prolonged period of time and most principal of all repeatedly performing arts of the following hoodooism ritual:

I connect device, display and mains. Seconds after conjunctive the powercord, matchless hears a duplicate click from the powersupply. I withdraw the display-connector loose until something in the powersupply area makes a clicking sound. And so I push the power switch and as before long the powerled comes on, merely ahead the powersupply makes the clicking sound once again, i quickly urgency the display connector in it's receptacle.
Timing seems to be crucial, because i ne'er get it to add 1 go, it always takes a shitload of tries ahead it works and i take the imprint the "right" click someway sounds somewhat different. How, I'm not totally fated about that and as you tin imagine I don't regain much view experimenting much after I see the screen combust once more

I have sex as a main organization an doddering trusty Plural 2GHz PowerMac G5 (PowerMac7,2). Betrothed there is an Orchard apple tree Cinema Display, it's has 3GB of memory, an extra 500GB harddisk and about a year past I replaced the disc-burner. (senescent extraordinary was hosed) It's been running nearly full-time for years now and gives otherwise no problems whatsoever. It's still on Tiger though. (fully updated).

And now for the job:

If I shutdown my G5, so power it up once more the display won't come on. The Mac itself powers up fine and i canful ssh into it from my MacBook, only no light emits from the display whatsoever.
Note: a restart is fine! If I do a software update and so restart the organisation, the screen has no problems. Only when it completely powers down.

My local repairshop seems eager to score me buy a new logicboard, only that makes little sense to me (and i'll spare you the details, merely i throw no great desire to lug a G5 to a repair shop willynilly, since i'll receive to use public transportation). It seems to be very much related to the clicking sound coming from the general area of the powersupply.

Anyway, what else consume i tried over time:
Another startupdevice: no worky
Another cable: no worky
Another screen: no worky
Another videocard: no worky

It's amazing btw, the amount of abuse Mac OS X crapper tolerate 'restarting' it (sometimes even by simply actuation the powerplug). I always (re)boot from an other drive afterwards to do a check of the filesystem and hardly ever there is a question!

Several times i've been scouring the web to find mention of a similar difficulty, only to no avail, so hopefully digit of you buns shed some light on this trouble...
