The new Powerbooks have it–the others dont. Period. The 17 ALBook, (called ALBook because its made out of Aircraft Aluminum, a leftover nickname from from the Powerbooks made out of Titainium, called TiBooks, the model the ALBooks will replace) have so many features they others dont think about. A light sensor in the machine that when ambeient light dims, the keyboard lights up from fiber optic light strands, that gives the machine, and keyboard, a true backlit effect. A Rock Solid UNIX Based OS, FREE multimedia software–iPhoto, iMovie, and iTunes. They are part of the iApps Like iCal (calendar) and iSync (contacts and such) that are made for the Macintosh, the Killer apps for the new digital hubs we all seem to have. (most of the iApps are free, burning DVD movies will cost $49, but they all come in the package) The new Powerbooks also have built in Bluetooth support. Bluetooth enables high speed wireless data transfers to a cell phone or a PDA. Speaking of wireless, the new Powerbooks have the next generation in wireless networking, 802.11g, called Airport Extreme, which allows speeds up to 54Mbps. The price is a little steep, I will admit, but the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I THOUGHT PHOTOSHOP AND ILLUSTRATOR WORKED AS TERRIBLE ON PCS. UNTIL I BOUGHT A Apple PowerBook G4 17. THE DETAIL IN MY WORK IS SO MUCH SHARPER, CLEARER, AND VIVID. ILL NEVER GO BACK TO A PC!
The best thing about this product is…well…everything! I finally switched to Mac and its a dream. They only downfall is the software problems but now a days ALMOST everything is for Mac because people are finally realizing uts BETTER! I got Virtual PC 6 with it though so I can run my PC programs anyways! The included software is unbeatable, I love my iLife (hehehe). As someone else said you get what you pay for. But with Apple you always get more than you pay for. One of the biggest pros for me is viruss. They are almost all made for PC! So if I get one on my Mac it wont even work! Its soooooo stable never crashes and I just got Safari for it (substitute for Internet Explorer) and it totally owns! It has built in pop up stoppers so ZERO pop-ups! I am sooo glad I decided to cough up the bucks for this computer its one of the best decisions of my life. My advice to everyone who reads this…
This laptop is the king of all. The first feature that strikes you is the 17 inch screen, the largest laptop screen in the world. It has a super-fast 1 GHz G4 processor and CD and DVD read and write capabilities. How many laptops can boast that? It also has a huge 60 GB hard drive and lots and lots of ports, some brand new (Fire Wire 800). It also has a less spongy, backlit keyboard. And to top it all off is Mac OS X Jaguar a super stable, very easy to use operating system. This laptop has great capabilities, like its predecessors, but this PowerBook will really shine.

Very impressed by the look, feel, and capabilities of Apples latest. However, the price tag is a bit steep in this economy. Ive had some experience with older Mac, and have been a PC user for a long time. Visiting MW makes me want to jump over the line.

If you really think about it, 3000 isnt bad considering what you get and how long it will last you. I hope they dont bring out a 18 or 19 soon because I love having the best. I had the 15, I sold it on ebay and bought the 17 and I have NO regrets. Best toy Ive ever bought.

To make this short and sweet: I am never going back to a Windows PC again. At first I balked at the speed (1 Ghz PowerPC vs. 2.4Ghz Pentiums), but then I read enough to learn that the PowerPC G4 processor is inherently 4 times faster than a pentium – which means my 1Ghz PowerPC runs like a 4Ghz Pentium 4! Everything about the powerBook is perfect, and connectivity is a snap. The powerBook was able to sync up my calendar from my cell phone and PDA without a hitch – Wirelessly! Thanks to the built-in bluetooth and the built-in wireless card There are 0 cables to lug around. Well, except for the power cord on extended trips! But apple even thought of that – you can take out the main battery, swap for a spare, all without powering down! The book just keeps on running! Wow, Apple, you did a great job on this one. Keep up the good work!
