The Air is what the iPad SHOULD have been. (OSX, USB, High-Def screen, etc)

Mingchi Kuo, a senior analyst at Digitimes Research, is predicting that an 11.6-inch Macbook Air — complete with Intel Core i-series processor — will be released in the second half of 2010. Kuo cites “discussions with upstream component makers,” and states that the new hardware will be manufactured by Quanta Computer. Kuo also wrote, “The new iPod touch will feature a 3-megapixel camera, capable of both photo and video recording, and will adopt Apple’s latest A4 processor.” The prognostications are not that shocking or outlandish, as both the Macbook Air and iPod Touch are due for a product refresh. Typically, Apple will refresh its iPod line before the holiday buying season, the refresh cycle of the Macbook Air has been slightly more sporadic.
Not going to happen. At the original MacBook Air introduction, Steve specially went against smaller screen sizes.

‘Steve’ also once said that there was no need for a color screen on an MP3 player, and we all know how that turned out…

To achieve a similar pixel density on a a display of some 11.6inches would result in a rather (Sony P-Series-esque) viewing experience, which is far from ideal for 99% of users.
Apple will be out of business by then. Steve will be a hobo in Cupertino still denying the iPhone 4 is crap. I feel worst for Phil Schiller, that boy likes his steaks and buttermilk and Marlboros, the dumpster diving gonna tale some getting used to.
I went in one day excited for a macbook air but left with a macbook pro. Simply put a macbook air is really not needed. Its specs vs design are good but it doesn’t have much worth in doing anything useful but surf the web at a really high price. It’s a nice luxury but at this point see no reason to own one with the ipad out.
This whole ‘retina’ display/extreme pixel density thing is only possible because the iPhone’s screen is a mere 3.5 inches.

macbook air = overpriced netbook
Shweeeeeeeet
They are also scheduled to make some hardware improvements to the macbook pro as well usb 3.0 and firewire upgrades.
@George,
but hasn’t he been against other things too? maybe he could justify it with like… a new keyboard design or something.. idk
Good for APPLE. Hopefully these products (IPOD Touch moreso) will give them a springback from the IP4 disaster. I plan to purchase a Macmini soon to replace my Macbook & hope there are no glitches in it. MY Macbook White was my first Apple product (purchased last year in Mar) & i love it. Got a 3g Touch in Sep for my bday & same thing so ive had great results with Apple. Picked up an Ipad last month & love it as well. Just took getting used to.
Good, my iPod Touch 1st gen is starting to get twitchy on me. Definitely will enjoy a fresh new look.
